ln 1974 only 22 contaminants were regulated by the Clean Water Act in the USA; today 91 are regulated and a further 104 are being considered for regulation. The maximum acceptable levels are being reduced as new research data are released. SANS 241 standards are ´lenient´ in comparison with the World Health Organization (WHO) standards. This means that you could be drinking water that is acceptable by SANS 241 standards but non-potable by WHO standards.
Legally safe water is relative. Totally safe water is absolute.
